Personal Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

• Identifiers — name, email address, phone number, IP address, and online identifiers such as cookie IDs and device identifiers.
• Internet and network activity — pages viewed, time spent on pages, referring website, browser and device type, and interactions with the Site.
• Commercial and inferred information — interests inferred from your browsing behavior, used to create a profile for marketing purposes.
• Information you provide — anything you submit through our contact forms, comment forms, or the “Get Featured” form.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as government identification numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, or health information.

How We Collect Personal Information

We collect information in three ways:

• Directly from you — when you fill in a form, leave a comment, or contact us.
• Automatically — through cookies, pixels, tags, local storage, and similar technologies placed on your device when you visit the Site.
• From third parties — through visitor identification services that match your device or browser against their own databases, as described below.

Third-Party Services We Use

WebVisitorJourneys — visitor identification

We use WebVisitorJourneys, our visitor identification service. When you visit the Site, it collects your browser and device information, IP address, the pages you view, and referral data. It also stores a hashed identifier in your browser and transmits it to third-party identity resolution providers, which may match it against their databases to associate your visit with a name, email address, or postal address.

We use the resulting information to recognize visitors, understand who is interested in our content, and send follow-up marketing communications by email, mail, or telephone. Under several US state privacy laws, this activity may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and it constitutes targeted advertising and profiling.

WebVisitorJourneys is operated using identity resolution technology provided by LeadPost, LLC, a registered data broker whose services include identity resolution, cross-device matching, advertising, analytics, audience segmentation, and profiling. Their privacy notice is available here.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics to measure how the Site is used — for example, how many people visit, which pages they view, and how they arrived. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_<ID>) containing a randomly generated identifier. This data is processed by Google LLC. See the Google Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics only runs on the Site when you have not opted out of Statistics.

Google Tag Manager

We use Google Tag Manager to load and control the tracking technologies described in this policy. Google Tag Manager does not itself collect personal information, but it determines which other services run and when, based on your privacy choices.

Other services

• Google reCAPTCHA — protects our forms from spam and automated abuse. When you use a form, reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
• Google Fonts — loads typefaces used on the Site; your IP address is sent to Google to deliver them.
• YouTube — plays embedded videos; YouTube may set cookies when a video loads.
• Gravatar — if you leave a comment, a hashed version of your email address is sent to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile picture. See the Automattic Privacy Policy.

How We Use Personal Information

• To operate, secure, and maintain the Site.
• To measure and improve how the Site performs.
• To identify visitors and businesses interested in our content.

• To comply with legal obligations.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We disclose personal information to:

• Service providers that host the Site, deliver email, or provide analytics on our behalf.
• Visitor identification and advertising partners, as described under WebVisitorJourneys above.

We do not disclose personal information in exchange for money. However, our use of visitor identification and advertising technologies may qualify as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under California and other US state privacy laws, because personal information is made available to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising and identity matching.

• Right to access a copy of that information.
• Right to delete personal information we hold about you.
• Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
• Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, of targeted advertising, and of profiling.
• Right to limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information.
• Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a lower quality of service because you exercised a privacy right.
• Right to appeal — if we decline your request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our decision.

These rights are provided under laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and comparable laws in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Which rights apply to you depends on your state of residence.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

You can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and of targeted advertising, at any time:

• Visit our Your Privacy Choices page and turn off the Marketing and Statistics categories. This takes effect immediately in your browser.
• Or email jim@hyperdogmedia.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”.

An opt-out made through the Site is stored in your browser. If you clear your browser storage, use a different browser, or use a different device, you will need to opt out again.

Opting out stops future sale, sharing, and targeted advertising. It does not delete personal information that was collected before you opted out — to request deletion, contact us using the details above.

Global Privacy Control

We recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal when you visit the Site, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information for that browser. You can learn more at globalprivacycontrol.org.

How to Submit a Request

To exercise any right described above, email jim@hyperdogmedia.com or write to us at the postal address at the top of this policy. Please tell us which right you wish to exercise and provide enough information for us to locate your records.

We will confirm receipt of your request and respond within the time period required by applicable law, generally 45 days, and we may extend that period where the law allows. Before acting on a request we may need to verify your identity. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written permission.

Marketing Communications

If you receive a marketing email from us, you can unsubscribe using the link in that email or by replying with a request to be removed. If you receive a telephone call and do not wish to be contacted again, tell us during the call or contact us using the details above, and we will add you to our internal do-not-call list.

Comments and Forms

When you leave a comment on the Site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection. Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you upload images to the Site, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors can extract that data from images on the Site.

How Long We Keep Personal Information

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Analytics data is retained according to the settings in our Google Analytics property. Comment data is retained indefinitely unless you ask us to delete it. Marketing contact data is retained until you opt out or ask us to delete it.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Personal information collected through the Site is processed in the United States. Some of our service providers may process data in other countries.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
